Baseball Downs DeSales By Double Digits

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern baseball got production throughout its lineup and a solid performance from its pitching staff to defeat the DeSales Bulldogs 12-3.

Freshman Carson Brown got his first career start on the mound and delivered five quality innings, striking out five while surrendering five hits, two walks, and just one run to earn the win.

Southwestern got its offense going in the bottom of the second with four runs on five hits. Trent Raschke opened the inning with a leadoff single to center field. Then, Alexander Cannata grounded out to first, moving Raschke over.

Adam Werchan followed with his first career hit, ripping a shot down the third-base line for an infield single and reaching third on a throwing error that scored Raschke. Then, Jacob Tanner single to right field, scoring Werchan. Next, James Vaquero singled to left field, with an error scoring Ted Lobkowicz and Tanner.

Henry Fisher hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the third inning, and Raschke followed with his second hit of the day, an RBI double to left field. Then, after Raschke advanced to third on a wild pitch and Cannata walked, Werchan recorded his first career RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Then, Tanner singled up the middle, and Lobkowicz walked. Mims walked with bases loaded to plate another run, Vaquero lined out, and a pitch hit Preston Witt to score Tanner. A wild pitch scored Lobkowicz, and Fisher drew a walk with a wild pitch scoring Mims for the 10-0 lead.

Southwestern added two more runs on a dropped fly ball in left field, scoring Mims and Tanner for the 12-0 lead. DeSales broke through in the fifth with one run. Diaz hit a leadoff triple to right field, and Colin Trembley hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Diaz. T

Trey Dees took the mound for the Pirates to start the sixth inning and retired the side in order and three of four hitters in the seventh inning. Noah Pyles started the eighth for Southwestern and loaded the bases but got two outs to leave all three runners stranded.

Catcher's interference, a walk, and a hit batter loaded the bases for DeSales to start the ninth, scoring on a Grigas RBI single and a wild pitch, but Pyles recorded three strikeouts to limit the Bulldogs to the two runs.

Southwestern improves to 4-4 and will travel to play the University of Texas at Dallas tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
