GRAPEVINE, Texas – Sam Anderson's victory in the 200-yard individual medley highlighted the day for the Southwestern University men's swimming & diving team at the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Natatorium.

The Southwestern Duals featured the host Pirates as well as a pair of NCAA Division II schools in Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) and UT-Permian Basin.

Anderson touched the wall for the final time in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.92. Teammate Andrew Renninger was not far behind in fourth with a time of 2:00.79.

Renninger turned in Southwestern's highest non-first place podium finish when he completed the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:57.90 for second place.

Anderson added a pair of third place finishes to his 200 IM win as the senior from Brookfield, Colo., got on the podium in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Anderson completed the distance in a time of 1:00.35 while teammate Jorge Mendiola was just behind in fourth in a time of 1:01.49.

The 200-yard breaststroke saw Anderson turn in a time of 2:13.42.

Zach Roberts took on the most daunting task of the day in the 1,000-yard free and completed the long-distance event with a time of 10:08.26 with fast laps of 27.83 and 29.15, which were the first and last laps respectively.

Henry McClure was the sprinter specialist for the Pirates and touched the wall in a tie for third place in the 50-yard free in a time of 21.88.

In the team points competitions, Southwestern did fall to both competitors, but there were many bright spots to expand upon for future races as the season progresses.

UTPB took home a 202-97 victory over Southwestern while Ouachita Baptist won 218.5-75.5. OBU also defeated UTPB 180-119.

The Pirates will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 when Colorado College attempts to invade the Walzel Natatorium. The first race of the day is scheduled for 11 a.m. CDT.
