Men's Soccer Posts Shutout Victory Over Centenary

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's soccer team earned its third shutout victory of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Centenary Gentlemen.

Southwestern entered the contest with the conference's stingiest defense, allowing only two goals through four matches, and dominated defensively again. The Pirates held the Gents without a single shot on goal in four Centenary attempts. The Pirate defense held its ground despite a 7-3 Centenary advantage in corner kicks, diffusing every threat.

On the other end, the Pirates scored their first goal on a penalty kick by Jackson DeHaven, who gave a subtle feint to his left then sent the ball sailing to his right and into the net as the Centenary goalkeeper dove helplessly the other way, almost 11 minutes into the match.

Southwestern added an insurance goal at the 75-minute mark when Ashton Bynum found Mofe Ariyo to put the Pirates up 2-0, marking the first time Southwestern has scored multiple goals this season.

With the win, Southwestern sits third in the SCAC standings as one of three teams without a loss this season, holding a 3-0-2 record. Trinity and Colorado College are ahead with 4-0-1 records. The Pirates have battled to a draw against both teams.

Southwestern will hit the road next weekend to face the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m.
