Men's Soccer Loses 2-1 to Trinity

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's soccer team surrendered two late goals in a 2-1 loss to the Trinity University Tigers.

Trinity University pressured Southwestern to earn eight corner kicks in the first half but the Pirate defense managed to keep most of the opportunities away from the goal, surrendering only two shots on goal in the half for Jack Viles saves.

The Tigers finally broke through against the Pirates defense on a cross from Philip Duenez to Jack Downes to give Trinity a 1-0 lead at the 66:34 mark.

With less than four minutes remaining, the Tigers added a much-needed insurance goal on a penalty drawn on a sliding tackle just outside the box. On the free kick, Downes snuck a shot just to the right of the Southwestern wall of defenders for his second goal of the match.

Southwestern challenged late but only finally broke through on a throw-in from Seth Holzmann to Michael Glode with five seconds remaining.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 8-4-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in conference play. The Pirates will celebrate senior day on Sunday against the Schreiner University Mountaineers at 2:00 p.m.
