The Pirates came back from a tough opening game loss to defeat Texas Lutheran 3-2 on Friday night and remain alive in the SCAC Baseball Championship in Shreveport, LA. 

After three scoreless innings in game one against Centenary, the Gents took a commanding lead with five in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth. Southwestern was held to just one hit in the contest and dropped the run-rule loss 10-0 in seven innings to fall into the elimination game.

Texas Lutheran fell to Trinity in game two of the day to set up the epic rematch. The Bulldogs jumped on top with two runs in the second before the Pirates got hot in the fifth to tie the game 2-2. Ben Little started the inning off with a single up the middle followed by a walk to Austyn Laird. Clayton Sparks' bunt single loaded the bases and Chase Allen drove home the first run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Laird came home on the next play as TLU was unable to get an out on Jared Bogosian's fielder's choice.

Southwestern took advantage of a Bulldog error in the fifth to score the go ahead. Head Coach R.J. Thomas' go-to closer Riley Wayland did just that, not allowing a single hit in three innings of work. Jacob Kendra earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out three.

Little was dominate at the plate, going 3-4 with one run scored while Colten Shea had a 2-3 outing.

The Pirates remain alive and advance to face the loser of the Centenary/Trinity game slated for 2:30 pm. SU's game time is set for 6pm.
