Pirates shutout to close regular season

Southwestern fell 2-0 to UC Santa Cruz in San Antonio on Saturday to close out the 2014 regular season.

The Pirates struggled to get much offense going all game, posting only two shots in each half. UCSC ended with 26 shots in the win, scoring one in each half.

Ryan Benner recorded 11 saves in his second collegiate start while his counterpart, David Vivian had four saves for the shutout.

Southwestern falls to 7-11-1 on the year while UCSC improves to 11-5-1 on the year. The Pirates remain in third place in the conference, however, and will enter the SCAC Conference Tournament next weekend as the #3 seed. They face #6 Schreiner on Friday at 1:30 pm in Seguin.
