Pirates Lose to Austin College in a Low Scoring Affair

SHERMAN, Texas - The Pirates had the early lead, but soon trailed and lost the game to Austin College 3-2.


Southwestern was the first to score when Jay Sterling crossed the plate on a RBI double by Cruz Luna in the top of the 1st to lead 1-0. 

In the bottom of the 2nd, the Pirates managed to get two runners out on a double play, but Leech stayed aboard and scored to tie the game at 1 apiece.  The Roos then scored two more runs after loading the bases in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 3-1.

Southwestern started to rally in the top of the 9th inning, when Tyler Herriage scored on a RBI single by Zachary Lynch. The Bucs had two on with only one out and looked poised to complete the comeback.  However, the Roos were able to retire the next two batters and hold on to the victory.

Southwestern was led offensively by Cruz Luna, who went 2-4 with two doubles and drove in a run.  The team moves to 2-27 overall and are 0-15 in conference.

Southwestern will close the series against Austin College tomorrow at 1:00PM.
