GEORGETOWN, Texas. - In a hard fought game with a nearly equal shot count the Pirates fell 2-0 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night.

UMHB made it clear early the style of game they were going to play, using direct attacks to their striker to test the Pirate defense. The SU defensive line held strong and cleared out any threat that came their way. Southwestern got the first solid shots of the game, requiring the Crusaders' keeper to make diving saves.

The Pirates had a scare of their own when Scott Poole forced Daniel Poole off the line. Poole's shot went just outside of Poole's reach and spun towards the line but was cleared off the goal line by SU's defense to keep the shutout intact.

With just over five minutes to play it was UMHB that got the ball in the back of the net when Derek Geels broke free and snuck behind the SU defensive line for the easy tap in goal to send the Crusaders into halftime up 1-0.

UMHB added a goal less than ten minutes into the second half when Tyler Pate gathered Geels' pass and drilled a shot just inside the right post for a 2-0 UMHB lead.

With nine minutes to play in the game the Pirates seemed to have the look they needed as Poole started the transition after a corner kick. Poole threw to Matthew Nickell who brought the ball hard up field and played to Timothy Eamma down the line who found Perkins seven yards from goal. Perkins' one touch shot was saved by Stegmeyer to keep the Pirates scoreless.

UMHB led slightly in shots 9-8 but had four more corner kicks than the Pirates 5-1. Poole recorded three saves in the game while Stegmeyer posted four saves.

With the loss Southwestern falls to 3-3 on the season. They head back out on the road to California to face Whittier on Friday and Redlands on Sunday.
