Men's Soccer Advances to Semifinals with 1-0 Win Over Centenary

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern controlled every minute to earn a 1-0 victory over Centenary College to advance to the semifinals of the SCAC Men's Soccer Championship.

Southwestern started out strong and tested the Gents' defense from every angle until Matthew Nickell found the soft spot and served the ball in to Evan Perkins who put it away in the 34th minute. The goal was the only one of the game for either team as SU's defense controlled Centenary's offense.

The Pirates took 23 shots in the match while allowing just four. SU also led in corner kicks with 5 and gave Centenary just one. Daniel Poole recorded two saves as his defensive line took care of most of the attacking action. Robbie Ramirez had 10 saves on a busy night in goal for the Gents.

The win improves Southwestern to 13-7-1 on the season and advances them to face #2 seed Colorado College on Saturday night. The semifinal is set for 7:30 p.m.
