Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Fresh off a long break the Southwestern Pirate
men's soccer team got back to business on Friday afternoon, easily
handling Rhodes in their SCAC conference opener. SU led in every
offensive category, winning 3-0 to improve to 3-3 on the season and
1-0 in the conference.
Senior Alex
Keller (pictured) got things rolling for the Pirates with an
unassisted goal in the 27th minute. Southwestern never looked back
and continued to exert their dominance throughout the remainder of
the contest. First-year midfielder Matthew Nickell
scored his first collegiate goal after a header by first-year Steven
Resnik was saved and Nickell put in the rebound, giving SU a
2-0 lead going into the half.
Resnik assisted once again on Southwestern's third goal, scored
again by Keller, to give the Pirates a nice cushion for the
remainder of the game.
Southwestern was +7 in shots (13-6) and +1 on corner kicks
(4-3).
Keeper Nick
Pierce recorded his second shutout of the season with two
saves.
The Pirates look to continue their winning ways at Hendrix on
Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
