SHERMAN, Texas - The women's basketball team lead by 13 points
with eight minutes remaining in the second half but were unable to
hold off the second place 'Roos as they dropped the second game of
their last road trip 64-58. SU is now 10-14 on the year and 6-9 in
the SCAC.
SU took control from the opening tip of the game, only allowing
Austin College to lead once in the opening minutes, as they went up
by 10 points at halftime, 26-36, on a pair of free throws by senior
Katie Kern.
The Pirates pushed the lead to 12, 26-38, at the beginning of
the second half but AC pulled to within five, 35-40, with 13 to go.
Southwestern put together a run of their own to push the lead to
13, their largest of the game, with eight minutes remaining. SU's
hot hand ran out as the 'Roos came storming back to pull even 53-53
with five minutes to play.
After a Pirate turnover AC took the lead for the first time
since the opening minutes with a layup by Katy Williams. SU would
never regain the lead as Austin stole the 64-58 win.
Kern led with 16 points for the Pirats while senior Shae
Seagraves chipped in 15. AC's Williams led all players with 18
points and 15 rebounds.
Southwestern will wrap-up the regular season on Friday night
with a must win game against Trinity for a shot at a berth in the
SCAC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm and will begin after
senior recognition.
