Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – Birmingham-Southern used a run and
game style to defeat the Pirates of Southwestern University 75-57
in SCAC conference action in the Robertson Center on Saturday
night. The loss falls SU to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference
while Birmingham-Southern improves to 9-10 and 4-7.
Despite opening the game in a high tempo fashion shown through a
layup by first-year Katelyn Bartell off the offensive tipoff the
Pirates had trouble handling the up-tempo style and allowed 52
first half points going into the break down 17, 52-35.
As the second half commenced the Panthers resumed their run and gun
style, pushing their lead to as many as 19 and retained control of
the contest. The Pirates put together a run and pulled within 15
points, 65-50, with 6:53 to play but Birmingham-Southern responded
with two layups in consecutive possessions to push the spread back
to 19.
Junior Shae Seagraves was the only Pirate in double digits to led
for Southwestern with 15 points. The Panthers' Adams posted
17 points in the win.
Southwestern will continue their homestand with two games in the
Robertson Center next weekend. They face Millsaps on Friday night
and Hendrix on Saturday night. Both games are slated to begin at
6:00 pm.
