Southwestern University's men's soccer team dropped their
conference opener at Colorado College 2-1 in a game that saw all
goals scored within eight minutes of each other in the first half.
The Tigers took a brief 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a goal
off a corner kick by Reese but the Pirates quickly responded with a
goal of their own 40 seconds later. Freshman midfielder Charlie
Schreck (pictured) took a feed from senior forward Josh Spencer and
slipped a shot past CC's Brian Engle from 12 yards out. The
goal is Schreck's second of the season.
Colorado College took the lead in the 29th minute when Cobb
scored on a direct kick into the upper right corner, just over the
fingertips of sophomore goalkeeper Nick Pierce.
Pierce ended with six saves on the night in 90 minutes of
action. Colorado took six more shots than the Pirates, 16-10, and
had one more corner kick, 7-6.
With the loss the Pirates fall to 3-3 on the season an 0-1 in
conference action. They will remain on the road and continue the
conference opener weekend with a match on Sunday at Austin College
at noon.
