GEORGETOWN, Texas - Wes Willis tossed a complete game to lead Southwestern to a 4-2 win over Trinity on Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Field.
The Pirates improve to 9-10 (3-3 SCAC) with the win, while Trinity drops to 7-9 (2-3 SCAC).
Southwestern took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sac fly from Michael Murphy, but Trinity responded in the top of the second on an RBI single to tie the score at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the fourth inning, as Trinity used an RBI double to take a 2-1 lead, but the Pirates knotted the score up again on an RBI double Ricky Gomez to make it a 2-2 contest.
Southwestern took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Chris Lowry and an RBI fielder's choice from Kyle Belski to grab a 4-2 lead.
Southwestern's runs proved to be the final two of the contest, as Willis tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the Southwestern victory.
Willis improved to 4-2 with the win after working nine innings and striking out six batters, while Tigers' starter Evan Bronson incurred the loss.
Lowry led the Pirates with a three-hit game, while Murphy and John Wooten each notched a pair of hits. Jordan Pennington led Trinity with a 3-for-4 effort with one RBI.
Southwestern and Trinity will conclude their two-game series on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at Rockwell Field.
