Southwestern combined a hot shooting night with solid defense to
defeat Austin College 59-48 in Georgetown, TX on Friday night.
Southwestern led by seven early in the first half, but Austin
College was able to pull back even on layup by Austin College's
Kersti Marusich to tie the
game at 14 with just under six minutes to go in the half. The
Pirates responded and were able to put together a 12-6 run to go
into halftime up 6, 26-20.
In the second half, Southwestern quickly pushed their lead to
11, 38-27, on pai
r of layups by junior guard Jessica Herbst and

homore forward Staley Mullins.
The Pirates cruised to the victory for the remainder of the half,
never allowing Austin College within six points.
The Pirates shot 50% from the field for the game and held the
Roos to just 23.1% from the field and 23.8% from three point range.
They also forced Austin College into 14 turnovers and committed
just 12.
Senior Natasha Azizi led
Southwestern with 22 points on 8-10 shooting from the field and 6-7
from the free throw line. Herbst and Mullins both chipped in 10
points in the effort. Mullins also had five assists to accompany
her five blocks on the evening.
The Pirates improve to 6-18 overall and 2-12 in SCAC conference
act
ion. They will close out the regular season with Senior Day on
Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Colorado College.
