Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern women's
basketball team had a solid team game recording 17 assists on the
night as SU defeated the University of Dallas 66-57 on Sunday
afternoon.
Southwestern broke open the game early, starting with a 10-0 run in
the opening four minutes, but hit a skid through the middle portion
of the half scoring eight points in eight minutes. Tenacious
defense held the Crusaders at bay during the dry spell, however, as
SU remained up by 11, 18-7, with eight minutes remaining.
Southwestern closed out the first half similar to how they started
and went into halftime up 15, 33-17.
As the second half opened Southwestern hit a snag and allowed the
Crusaders within six, 44-38, with 9:17 left to play in the game.
The Crusaders were able to get to the basket repeatedly in the
stretch as SU missed free throw attempts to allow the gap to be
closed.
It was a back and forth battle the rest of the way as both teams
headed to the free throw line numerous times. UD's Yoshimura
brought the Crusaders within three points on a pair of step-back
three pointers, Dallas' first three's of the game, to
put the score at 58-55 with 2:19 left.
Southwestern forced a turnover by trapping a defensive rebound that
gave the Pirates the ball back with 48 seconds remaining with a
four point lead, 61-57.
After the timeout, Southwestern closed out the game hitting five of
six free throws down the stretch of the game to earn the 66-57
victory.
Four Pirates were in double digits, led by senior Katie Kern and
junior Shae Seagraves who each had 13 points. First year Katelyn
Bartell followed with 10 points while senior Narisa Trammell
chipped in 11 including going 3-5 from three point range. Seagraves
also led the Pirates in rebounds with 10, posting her first
double-double of the season.
The win pulls the Pirates even on the season with a 3-3 overall
record. They have a week and a half off before returning to action
at the Las Vegas Hoopla hosted in Las Vegas, NV beginning on
December 18th at 6:00 pm.
