Box Score BELTON, Texas – Junior center Staley Mullins (pictured)
led the way recording her first double-double of the season, 11
points and 11 rebounds, as Southwestern dropped their second game
of the season Saturday afternoon. The Pirates fell to the
University of Mary Hardin Baylor 73-52 to fall to 0-2 on the
year.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first five minutes
of the contest before Southwestern sprung to action and pulled
within six, 16-10, just five minutes later. UMHB extended their
lead to 19 with just under two minutes left to go in the half and
SU pulled within 15 going into halftime after a couple of high-low
connections of Mullins to senior Katie Kerns.
The Pirates came out hot in the second half, pulling within 10,
41-31, less than four minutes into the period. UMHB steadily
extended their lead, going up by 22 with three minutes remaining
before cruising to the win.
Southwestern shot 42.6% from the floor but committed 22 turnovers
to UMHB's 17 and the Crusaders made 12 more free throws than
the Pirates.
Junior Shae Seagraves led with 16 points while Mullins was the only
other Pirate in double digits with 11.
Southwestern will have their first home games after Thanksgiving as
the play host to the SU/AC Classic. They face LaGrange on Friday at
5:00 pm and then Otterbein at 5:00 pm on Saturday.
