Trinity No Match for Determined Pirates

Nov. 14, 2008

Anytime Southwestern and Trinity take the court together, you can expect a high energy, intense match.  Tonight's semifinal match-up in the NCAA tournament lived up to those expectations and then some.

The highly contested match began with Southwestern taking control by winning the first set 25-18.  Trinity responded by winning the second set 25-22 and edging out Southwestern in an elongated third set 28-26.  But, the Pirates were not to be counted out yet as they took game four 25-21 pushing the contest to a fifth and final set.

As the race to 15 started, the Pirates came out on a mission, eventually going up 9-3.  The closest Trinity would ever get would be three points at 13-10, but the Pirates never reliquished control and cruised to the finish with two consecutive points.

The Pirates came in as the underdogs, with Trinity holding home court advantage and by dropping the first meeting earlier this year 3-0.  Even with the cards stacked against them, they had the determination to emerge victorious.  The win moves Southwestern to the regional final against Emory tomorrow night at 7:00.  As always, the game will be available live on the web through the SU website.
