The SU men's soccer team picked up win number on Friday (Sept. 7) as they posted a strong 3-1 victory over Hardin-Simmons University in Dallas, TX.
Scoring began for the Pirates less than 18 minutes in to the game when junior Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Southern Methodist University) scored on a breakaway with an assist from senior Kyle Strine (Houston, TX/Klein Oak HS) to make the score 1-0. Later, with less than a minute left in the half, John Yi (San Antonio, TX/Oakland City University) scored on a carom in front of the net to give SU a two-goal advantage. Strine and Troy Hutchens (Stillwater, OK/Stillwater HS) were credited with assists on the goal.
Strine got in on the scoring at the 76:17 mark when he made good on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season, making it 3-0. The Cowboys got on the board with just over five minutes remaining in the game for a final score of 3-1.
Southwestern out-shot the Cowboys by a wide margin, 32-7. The Pirates put 11 shots on goal and held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalie Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) only faced two shots on goal and he had one save in the contest as he improved his record to 3-0 on the year.
SU looks to continue its unbeaten streak as the Pirates take on the University of Texas-Dallas at 7:00 p.m. in Dallas.
