SU Men's Soccer Takes Down Pacific Lutheran for 2-1 Win

The Southwestern University men's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 win over Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday (Sept. 1) in San Antonio, TX.

The first half saw a lot of defense until the 43:56 mark when senior Kyle Strine (Houston, TX/Klein Oak HS) scored the first goal of the season to put SU ahead 1-0. Goalie Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) made three saves during the period.

In the second period, Preston Hollis (Austin, TX/McCallum HS) scored an unassisted goal during the 77th minute to give the Pirates a two-goal advantage. The Lutes finally got on the board with just over four minutes left to play in the game but they were unable to tie it up.

The Pirates were out-shot 18-12 but the two teams were close in shots on goal with PLU putting seven on goal compared to Southwestern's six. Tasin finished the game with six saves for the win.

The Pirates will take on Whitworth University on Sunday (Sept. 2) at 10:00 a.m. in San Antonio.
