Box Score

Senior Kyle Strine (Houston, TX/Klein Oak HS) scored a pair of goals and goalie Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) made five saves to lead the Southwestern University over 10th-ranked Centre College on Friday (Oct. 19) afternoon in Georgetown, TX.

The game was scoreless until the 30th minute when Strine took a pass from fellow senior Scott Smith (Houston, TX/Jersey Village HS) and put it past the Colonel goalie for a 1-0 Pirate lead. Centre got on the board at the 39:05 mark with a goal from Eric Brown to tie the game at 1-1.

The teams remained at one goal a piece until Strine scored goal number two in the 84th minute for the 2-1 SU lead. Sophomore Nathan Shaw-Meadow (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) was credited with an assist on the play.

Strine now has six goals on the season, tied for second most on the team. Tasin was solid in goal for Southwestern, stopping five shots. The Pirates have now allowed just two goals in six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games. This was the second year in a row that SU has upset a ranked Centre team. Last year, the Pirates handed the #18 Colonels a 1-0 loss.

The Pirates are now 9-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in SCAC play while Centre falls to 12-2-1, 5-1-0 in the conference.

SU plays again on Sunday (Oct. 21) at 1:00 p.m. when the Pirates host DePauw University in Georgetown.
