The SU men's soccer team went off for five goals in a 5-0 victory over Austin College in Sherman, TX on Friday (Oct. 12) to remain unbeaten over the last five games.
Junior Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) got the scoring started during the 24th minute with an assist from fellow junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton). A minute and a half later, Lozano scored unassisted for a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, senior Cory Fujimoto (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) scored his first goal of the year in the 55th minute of play. Spencer scored again with an assist from Preston Hollis (Austin, TX/McCallum HS) during the 62nd minute to put SU ahead by four. Scott Smith (Houston, TX/Jersey Village HS) added to the lead with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Spencer has now scored eight goals this season, leading the team in both goals and points (16). Lozano has six goals to his credit and 14 points. Junior Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) played most of the game for the Pirates, stopping two shots for the win.
SU out-shot the Roos 23-11 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Pirates improve to 8-4-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference while Austin drops to 0-10-1, 0-3 in conference.
Southwestern continues on to Colorado Springs, CO on Sunday (Oct. 14) to face off against Colorado College at 1:00 p.m.
