Pirates' Postseason Comes to an End with Loss to Trinity

The #20 Southwestern University volleyball team saw its season come to a close as the Pirates fell to the #5 Trinity Tigers 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 33-31) in the Regional Semifinals on Friday (Nov. 10) in San Antonio, TX.

Junior Jewel Thomson (Arlington, TX/Summit HS) recorded a match-high 14 kills for SU with a .151 hitting percentage and also had 11 digs for a double-double. Fellow junior Katy Lukaszewski (Pasadena, TX/Deer Park HS) ended the night with 13 kills and seven digs.

Marie Bruce (Austin, TX/Connally HS) was credited with a double-double, totaling 36 assists and 15 digs. First-year Samantha Lingamfelter (New Braunfels, TX/New Braunfels HS) led all players with 22 digs, averaging over seven digs per game. Senior Allie Spangle (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood HS), playing in her final collegiate game, had nine kills and six blocks.

Trinity put up a strong defensive effort, compiling 9.5 total blocks and notching 87 digs. SU managed just a .095 hitting percentage with 158 total attempts.

The Pirates finish the season with a 30-9 record while Trinity improves to 33-6. Trinity will play #12 Emory tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in the South Regional final.
