The Southwestern Swim and Dive program hired Matt Lanzara in August 2023 as a part-time assistant coach. Lanzara was promoted as the program's full-time assistant coach in the summer of 2024.
Before arriving at Southwestern, Matt attended Trinity University and was a standout athlete as a member of the Tigers swim program. Lanzara was a three-time 100 Backstroke SCAC Conference Champion, a one-time 200 Backstroke SCAC Champion, and currently holds eleven Top 10 times in program history. He was on numerous SCAC Conference Championship relay teams over the years, including the 200 Medley, 400 Medley, 400 Freestyle, and 800 Freestyle Relays. Matt is also a member of two Trinity school records in the 400 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays. In his final year with the Tigers in 2023, Matt was named the Men's Team Captain and helped lead four Tigers relays to place in the Top 16 at the 2023 NCAA Championship Meet. At that meet, Matt earned three All-American Awards for his performance.
Lanzara graduated in the spring of 2023, earning his degrees in political science and a minor in history. He currently resides in Georgetown and is working on his Master's Degree in Public Administration when he is not at the pool.
“I am very excited to work with Coach Jon Duncan and to pass on my experience and knowledge to the next generation of collegiate swimmers.”
