Michael Nielson joined the Southwestern Women's Basketball program in September 2023 as an Assistant Coach for the Pirates. 

Coach Mike in his first year at Southwestern assisted in scouting reports, walk-throughs, individual skill development, academic meetings, summer camps and all aspects of recruiting.

Coach Mike came to Southwestern after serving as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Concordia University Texas. While at Concordia he assisted in coaching 10 All-ASC Selections. A Concordia graduate Coach Mike has a double major in both Kinesiology and Physical Education. As a Graduate Assistant for the WBB team he gained his masters in Coaching and Sports Administration. As a student, he was a dual sport athlete in both Basketball and Track & Field.

In addition to his work as a collegiate Coach Mike coaches with Team Lex 17U/3SSB in the summer and is an active member of the Texas Army National Guard as a medic. 

A native to Central Texas Coach Mike is from Kyle, Texas. Coach Mike resides in Georgetown, Texas with his wife Erin and their one son Tatum.
