Women's Soccer Earns 7th Shut Out Victory

GEORGETOWN, Texas  –  The Southwestern women's soccer team added another road win over the Concordia University Texas Tornados on Tuesday evening.

The Pirates wasted no time and took the ball straight the Tornado box by taking three shots at the goal within the first ten minutes of the game. Maya Fuller scored the first goal for the Pirates after a sharp pass from Sarah McGinn. Fuller helped spark the Pirate offense and was able to score another goal with an assist from Juliet Pridgen. After Fuller's two goals, Hallie Rutherford made the third goal unassisted for the Pirates, ending the first half with a dominating lead while goalie Mary Cardone kept the Pirate goal safe with three saves.

In the second half, the Pirates took the first shot at the Tornados goal, but Concordia was quick to put the ball in Pirate territory and took a shot at Cardone. Both teams struggled to get the ball into the opponent's net for most of the second half. While both teams were unable to score, Southwestern drew a penalty kick late in the game where Rutherford took the fourth goal, ending the match with a shutout win for the Pirates

Fuller improved with six goals for the 2019 season and Rutherford moved up to four goals. Cardone had seven saves in her seventh shut out victory and improved to 78 saves this season.

Up next, the Pirates will play their last conference games before hosting the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC ) Championships in Georgetown. Southwestern will take on the St. Thomas Celts and the Centenary Ladies on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 3 at noon.
