Scoring drought costs Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern was held to just one point in the second quarter and was unable to make up enough ground, falling 59-45 to Concordia at home Sunday.

Southwestern started well and had a three point lead at the end of the first quarter, but things quickly went quiet as the Pirates struggled offensively in the second quarter. SU went without a field goal in the frame, allowing Concordia to mount a 15 point lead, 32-17, heading into halftime.

The Pirates were much stronger in the second half, pulling within nine points, 54-45, with a minute and a half to play, but the hole was too big to climb out of as SU fell 59-45.

Tori Carraway led Southwestern with a double-double, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds while Madison Edwards added a team high 13 points.

Southwestern (1-4) has a quick turnaround as they next face Howard Payne in Brownwood on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
