2014

Sponsel posted the fastest times for the Pirates in the 110 hurdles (19.93) and 3000 steeplechase (10:28.20) at the SCAC Championships. He was also second on the team in the 1500 (4:33.94) and 400 hurdles (1:03.83). Sponsel’s time in the 400 hurdles at the SCAC Championships earned him a third place finish and All-SCAC honors. He was selected as the SCAC Track Athlete of the Week during the third week of the season and was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. 

2013

Sponsel ran a season best in the 1500 (4:35.85) at Incarnate Word, 3000 steeplechase (10:31.63) at Texas State and 3000 meter run (10:21.32) at Hardin-Simmons. His time in the 3000 steeplechase at the SCAC Championships earned him All-SCAC honors. Sponsel was also named the SCAC Athlete-of-the-Week on March 13^th and was a member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.

Personal

Joseph is the son of Tom and Christie and has one sister, Leigha.  Joseph is majoring in psychology with a minor in exercise and sports science at Southwestern.
