GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Women's Cross Country team wrapped up their season last weekend at the NCAA Divison III West Regional meet in Portland, Oregon. While the Pirates finished in eighteenth place out of twenty five at the meet, one runner,
Breanna Steele, will be heading to the NCAA National Meet as an individual qualifier. The junior from Happy Valley, Oregon qualified for nationals with an eighth place finish at a time of 21:29.1 in her home state, with her performance earning her All-Region honors. In total, seventy individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in the championship meet. The meet will take place on November 23rd at 10:00 AM in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Seven Pirates participated in the event at Mil McIver State Park including Steele.
Isabel Sainz completed her race in 24:22.0 and was #104 in the field. Following nine places behind her was
Hallie Martinez who ran her race in 24:36.1 and Jordan Hallub placed in the #125 spot at 24:46.2. To round out Southwestern's final three finishers,
Emily Chaires,
Casey Gilbert and
Sarah Rothe ran times of 25:01, 26:04.7 and 26.10.8 respectively.
