Pirates Run Well Despite Youth

The Pirates finished 5th at the Texas DIII Championshios on Saturday despite 5 of 10 runners running the 6K distance for the first time.  5 of Southwestern's top 6 finishers were either sophomores and first years.  Lilly Duarte, sophomore, was the top Pirate performer, finishing 9th with a time of 24:06.39.  Following Duarte was another Pirate sophomore, Kara Koinis, who finished 24th with a time of 25:22.23 which is a personal best.  First years Kate Messier and Krysten Budde finished back to back in 42nd and 45th with times of 26:22.33 and 26:44.90.  Sophomore Mebg Greenfield finished in 52nd with a time of 27:34.06 (personal best). 

The Pirates finished in 5th place with a total of 128 points.  The Pirates will run again in San Antonio at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational on October 8.
