Myers Highlights Pirates at Trinity Alumni Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Senior Kelly Myers had a big meet in her final regular-season appearance at the Trinity Alumni Classic on Saturday. This was a final tune-up for the Pirates before the SCAC Championships next weekend. 

Myers ran a personal best time of 15.58 in the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles and posted a fourth place finish in the finals with a time of 15.99. She was the highest D-III athlete in the event. This mark also places Myers at #3 on the SCAC performance list. 

Lilly Duarte also had a strong showing in the 800 meter run. She was the third highest D-III runner in the event and took seventh place overall with a time of 2:23.31. Maria Gonzalez and Meredith Donaldson also competed in the event. Gonzalez finished in 29th with a time of 2:44.89 and Donaldson took 30th in 2:45.10. 

Jillian Curran faced some tough competition in the 3000 meter steeplechase and brought home eighth place in a time of 13:07.22.

Other finishes for the Pirates were Cailey McLain's 21st place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:12.84, Kara Koinis came in 21st in the 1500 in 5:18.55, Taylor Critendon finished in 5:19.57 for 22nd place and Laura Wooden posted a time of 5:52.05 in the same event.  

Southwestern relays also put up tough performances as well. With Myers serving as lead off, SU's "A" team comprised of Myers, Koinis, Critendon, and Duarte had their best time of the season, coming in at 4:22.81 and in sixth place. The "B" team of Cara Sheffer, McLain, Gonzalez, and Donaldson finished in 4:45.31. 

The Pirates open the SCAC Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on April 27th.
