LEWIS’ TWO SCHOOL RECORDS HIGHLIGHTS THREE DAY EVENT AT INCARNATE WORD

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – First-year Elizabeth Lewis set two new school records over the weekend, breaking the record in the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley, as the Pirates took fourth place at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational.

Lewis snagged fourth place in the 500 free, coming in at 5:19.36 which was also a personal best time for her, and improved her time by nearly six seconds in the event. In the 400 IM her personal best and new school record time of 4:42.50 was achieved by shaving almost ten seconds off of her previous time.

The women were also impressive in the 100 back, snagging first and second place in the event. Sophomore Sarah Ayers came in first place in a time of 1:01.76 while teammate junior Bailey Thompson took second with a time of 1:02.67.

Three Pirates finished in the top 10 spots in the women’s 200 individual medley. Lewis placed second in a time of 2:15.41, Thompson took sixth in 2:18.78 and Ayers finished in 2:19.13 for eighth place.

Ayers and senior Anya Lopez-Fuentes each posted new season best times in the three session invitational. Ayers in the 100 back and 100 fly and Lopez-Fuentes in the 200 fly in which she shaved an astonishing 10 seconds off of her previous time, coming in at 2:59.05.

Four SU swimmers set new personal best times. Ayers in the 200 IM, Lewis in the aforementioned 500 free and 400 IM, Thompson in the lead off of the 200 free relay and sophomore Christine Moody in the 500 free.

Southwestern will play host to McMurry University on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet that has traditionally been a hotly contested meet. The first event is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
