FIRST DUAL MEETS CHALLENGE PIRATES OVER WEEKEND

On Friday evening the men's and women's swimming teams traveled to McMurry to compete in a dual meet and left with the women winning 109-96 and the men losing 107-93. The women were paced with wins from Melissa Nelson (200 Freestyle), Elizabeth Lewis (200 IM), Sarah Ayers (100 Freestyle), Bailey Thompson (100 Back), and Stephanie Morton (100 Breast), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Christine Moody, Thompson, Nelson, Ayers). The 200 IM (Lewis, Thompson, Ayers) and the 100 Free (Ayers, Moody, Morton) were exceptional events as the women placed 1-2-3 in a display of strength.

The men were led by Stephen Montes (200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle) and Evan Firth (200 IM, 100 Fly) with both finishing first in their individual events. Taylor Steele (1000 Freestyle) and Jon La Rochelle (100 Breast) also contributed first place finishes to help the men. The 400 Freestyle Relay (Prater, Steele, Montes, Firth) also finished first with a new season best time.

Saturday afternoon both teams traveled to Trinity and both came home unsuccessful in their attempts to beat their rivals from San Antonio. Elizabeth Lewis, Sarah McCausland, and Bailey Thompson led the team with first place finishes in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 Backstroke, respectively.

The men were led by Stephen Montes with his victory in the 1000 Freestyle. Second place finishes from Jon La Rochelle (200 Breaststroke), John Prater (100 Breaststroke), and Evan Firth (100 Butterfly) helped the men's team as well.

Both men's and women's teams will compete at the Dallas Invitational at Southlake, Texas.
