Pirates Take Third In San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern Women's Golf team closed out their fall season on Tuesday at the Alamo City Classic, finishing in third place and tying their highest finish of the fall.

The difficult course challenged all as just three golfers shot in the 70's on day one. Karissa Speck was just outside of the 70's with an 80 in her first round, ending in a tie for fourth place as the top finisher for SU.

Speck continued to play well and shot an 81 on the second day to end with 161 strokes and tied for fourth place. UMHB's Sara Eckert won the tournament with a 150 (75-75).

Kelsey Coburn was hot on Speck's heels as the two battled all the way to the end. Coburn had an 82 on the final day, one stroke higher than day one, to finish with 163 strokes and tied for seventh.

Lauren Boone snagged the third spot for Southwestern with a 172 (89-87), coming in a tie for 16th. Stephanie Scholer posted a 176 to end in 21st while Shae Seagraves finished with a 182 (92-90), tying for 25th.

Katie McCance competed individually for Southwestern and had a strong showing to coming in 28th place with 185 strokes (95-90).

The Classic marks the end of the fall season for the Pirates. They return to competition on February 28-29 in Temple, Texas at the UMHB Invitational.
