WOMEN'S GOLF IN SECOND PLACE AFTER DAY ONE OF ACTION
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Pirate women's golf team sits in second place overall after the opening round of the SCAC Championships and are just two strokes off of the lead. SU shot a combined 343 while leader Centre shot an opening round 341. All Pirates finished in the top 20 after the first round.
Senior Kristen Davenport paced the Pirates, coming a two-way tie for second place with a six over par 80. She and Centre's Whitney Miller are just one stroke behind the leader, Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes.
Fellow senior Cody Wallace (pictured) had a strong day on the links, shooting an 86 at 12 over par which landed her in a tie for seventh place. First year Kelsey Coburn was just behind Wallace with an opening round 87, 13 over par, tied for ninth. Fellow first-years Stephanie Scholer and Erin Perry rounded out the strong first round with a 90 and 91, respectively, for 14th and 17th places.
Despite the inclement weather in the area the Championships are slated to begin round two at 8:00 am on Saturday.
