Final Meet Preps Pirates for Championships
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In their final regular season meet the Southwestern men's track team tuned-up and posted big finishes in preparation for the SCAC Championships next weekend.
Running in his first ever 3000 meter steeplechase, Paden Williams won the event at the Trinity Alumni Classic in a time of 10:20.39 and placing him fifth on the SCAC leader board.
Daniel Tuttle had a big weekend, finishing in fourth in the 400 in a time of 58.09, fifth in the 110 hurdles (14.97) and anchored the 4x400 "A" relay team that posted a season best time of 3:27.79. Tuttle also competed on the field side of the competition for the first time this year, jumping his first triple jump event of the season. His mark of 12.84m (42' 1.5") places Tuttle second on the SCAC leader board.
Alex Sheppard also posted a top ten finish for Southwestern in the 110 hurdles, coming eighth with a time of 16.48.
In the 800, Lando Duarte finished in seventh in a time of 1:59.74 while Williams took 14th in 2:04.14.
All three of Southwestern's relay teams finished in the top ten. The 4x100 team of Zach Anglin, Xi Wu, Alex Sheppard and Ryan Huiszoon posted a time of 46.89 and in the 4x400 the "A" team comprised of Anglin, Sheppard, Duarte and Tuttle took seventh in 3:27.79 while the "B" team of Huiszoon, Williams, Brady Kent and Joseph Quintero came in 10th at 3:46.07.
Field events have always been a bright spot for SU this season and continued to be this weekend. Cody Taylor tied for seventh in the pole vault with a throw of 3.81 meters. Daniel Poole also came in seventh in the javelin with a throw of 44.85 meters while Quintero took 11th in the event with a toss of 39.09.
Southwestern is poised for a big showing at the SCAC Championships next weekend in Birmingham, Ala. Competition begins on Friday, April 27th.
