Dimanche named SCAC Newcomer of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four Southwestern men's tennis players were named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) teams, the league office announced in a press release Monday afternoon.

Alexis Dimanche led the way, as the first-year was named All-SCAC and SCAC Newcomer of the Year. Nickloz Snovely and Grant Gideon also garnered All-SCAC accolades, while Dean Dulthummon received honorable mention.

Dimanche, a native of Mouans-Sartoux, France, was named SCAC Player of the Week a league-high three times during the spring campaign. He started his first year of collegiate tennis by advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Regional Championships last fall. Dimanche completed the dual-match season with a 20-2 mark in singles competition and an 18-5 ledger in doubles play.

Snovely, a Pearland native, finished his career as the most-decorated player in program history. He was 15-6 at the top singles position this spring, while he and Gideon combined for a 19-4 mark at No. 1 doubles. Snovely completed his career with 111 combined wins, all but one coming at the top flight. He was named SCAC Player of the Week on April 11. Snovely also collected a three-set victory on March 15 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Alex Brenner, who was ranked 31st in the nation at the time.

Gideon, a junior out of San Angelo, posted a 14-7 mark in singles competition during the spring campaign. Eleven of his 14 victories ended in straight sets. Gideon also was named SCAC Player of the Week on April 18.

Dulthummon, a first-year student-athlete from Tamarin, Mauritius, also had a strong start to his collegiate career. He netted a 16-5 record on the singles courts, while also picking up 15 move victories at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates completed the 2017 season with an 18-7 overall record and advanced to the SCAC Championship match for the third consecutive year.
