SWIMMERS BLAST OFF THE BLOCKS AT SCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

After just one day of competition at the SCAC Championships in Nashville, TN the Pirates have already set eight new school records and posted two all conference swims.
For the women, the 400-yard medley relay of Jessie Carrier, Alana Bergfield, Bailey Thompson and Sarah Ayers came in third with a time of 4:00.77. This was an All-Conference swim as well as a new school record by six seconds. Thompson's lead off 100-yard backstroke split time was 59.73, also a school record. This same relay team came in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.53 to set another school record.
The B teams in both relay events finished in 14th place. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Kelly Myers, Stephanie Morton, Christine Moody and Michele Comerota finished with a time of 1:47.42 and the 400-yard medley relay of Myers, Morton, Sam Kessler and Comerota finished in 4:23.50.
Carrier also set a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.78. This time earned her an All-Conference swim in addition to a NCAA B-cut. Comerota placed 15th in the event with at time of 26.62.
On the men's side, Travis Macha, John Prater, Josh Stanfield and Evan Firth placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.99. This earned the relay team a school record in addition to Macha's record setting split of 21.39. Macha also finished in 9th place individually in the 50-yard freestyle event.
Firth set another school record in the 200-yard individual medley. His time of 1:58.07 earned him fifth place in the event. Dustin McCammon placed 14th with a time of 2:02.82.
The 400-yard medley relay of McCammon, John Prater, Firth and Macha finished in 3:39.24 which was good enough for seventh place and a new school record. Prater also scored points for the Pirates in the 500-yard freestyle by finishing in 14th with a time of 4:58.24.
